TRAVEL: Everything is Magic in Holland Michigan
If you have had the chance to explore "pure Michigan" then you know life is sweet just North of Chicago. Holland Michigan is just under 3 hours away from Chicago, so if you're up for it, its totally doable in a day. Holland is home to exactly what you think, a Dutch village reminiscent of the country itself without being too over the top. Authentic people, authentic food, drinks and experiences to last a lifetime. Holland hosts a "Tulip Time Festival" in early May each year. A weeklong event during the peak bloom time for you guessed it- Tulips. If you did not know already, my name means Tulip in Turkish and with a festival celebrating well ME, I knew it was a must see. Not to mention MILLIONS of tulips in the various tulip farms, perfect for any self respecting Instagram addict, or make shift fashion blogger.
Tulip Time has been named the "Best Small Town Festival" by Reader's Digest, and was recognized as USA Today's 2016 Best Flower Festival! The festival celebrates Holland’s Dutch heritage with 8 days of events and special attractions. If you love a parade, Tulip Time has three – the Volksparade, Kinderparade, and Muziekparade. The Dutch Marktplaats serves up plenty of Dutch food, merchandise, and demonstrations, while the festive Kinderplaats provides kids with a park full of activities. Throughout town, you’ll have many chances to experience traditional Klompen (wooden shoe) dancing, as well as the Art & Craft Fair, Quilt Show, carnival rides, concerts, theatrical shows, fireworks, trolley tours, and so much more. You can request a tulip time festival packet for the 2020 season here To help you plan, the Tulip Time organization puts out a Festival Guide that you can view or print here.
